Canadian Literature Resources for Secondary Teachers

In Alberta, 1/3 of texts taught at the high school level must be by Canadian creators. We want to help teachers achieve this mandate.

Our mission is to review Canadian Literature in an engaging manner by creating readily available and accessible content and resources for secondary teachers and CanLit enthusiasts. We facilitate easy integration of CanLit into the classroom, saving educators valuable time, and bringing attention to diverse Canadian voices.

PODCAST

Check out our podcast on Spotify. We release new content on the 1st and 15th of every month. Each episode is 15-20 minutes in length, and includes quippy commentary, background information on the author, historical context, and an analysis of the selected Canadian text.

We are currently applying for a grant to have the podcasts translated into ASL.

TEACHERS PAY TEACHERS

Each podcast episode has a corresponding assignment available on Teachers Pay Teachers. The assignments follow the Alberta curriculum, and are made for English 10, 20, and 30 at the -1, -2, and -4 levels. We will also be adding ELL resources and assignments.

Cris has worked in education since graduating from the University of Alberta in 2016. She has taught High School English for 4 years in 2 divisions, and has marked English 30-1 diplomas.

“Super cool assignments! I will definitely continue using CanLit Cafe resources in the future.”

We are excited to focus on texts produced by historically marginalized people. Please feel free to send us recommendations of texts.
