Content for secondary English teachers and Canadian literature enthusiasts.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to review Canadian Literature in an engaging manner by creating readily available and accessible content and resources for secondary teachers and CanLit enthusiasts. We facilitate easy integration of CanLit into the classroom, saving educators valuable time, and bringing attention to diverse Canadian voices.
Junior & Senior High School English Resources
For each podcast episode, we create a lesson and assignment to correlate with the content of the episode. The outcomes are based on the Alberta curriculum. Our Teachers Pay Teachers website is updated regularly with new resources.
ELL Resources
Cris is a certified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) instructor, and has worked with ELL students from almost every continent. We aim to make every lesson inclusive, and provide specific ELL resources on diverse, modern, and relevant Canadian texts that allow students to feel seen and represented.
Upcoming Projects:
We are currently looking into funding for ASL Translations
“CanLit Café Recommends” will launch fall of 2024
We are in the process of designing merchandise
Cyndel Jamieson’s Bio
I have an insatiable love for stories and learning and am excited to share that passion with others. As an advocate for most things nerdy, it should come as no surprise that the extensive research that goes into CanLit Café has been a worthwhile adventure full of twists and turns. The feeling when a piece of art captures my imagination and changes the way I see the world makes me feel alive. There are so many things that I don’t know, I find that exhilarating more than daunting. I look forward to taking this journey with our dear listeners here at CanLit Café, I don’t know where it will take us but I’m sure we’ll have fun along the way.
Crisandra Neuendorf’s Bio
I am passionate about literacy & making learning fun and easy to engage with, even at the secondary level. I graduated from the University of Alberta’s education program in 2016, and have taught grades 3-12, but have spent most of my career teaching high school English. English teachers are often defensive about their resources, or taught through methods that didn’t fit my pedagogy, so I wound up creating most of my own resources, and want to help teachers create an environment of enthusiasm for learning in their classrooms. My kids are excited about the unique activities I plan, and I am excited about teaching them. In 2024 I stepped away from teaching to pursue content creation full time. I now get to work with my sister pursuing a mission about which I am extremely passionate.
